(31/03/2006) Fur on Show - Autumn/Winter 2006/2007
Fur continues to add style and luxury to the new collections for Autumn/Winter 2006/2007. The recent fashion weeks in New York, London, Milan and Paris confirmed the innovation and talent of designers working with fur.
International fashion houses continue to experiment with fur to produce unique creations - once again proving that fur is the choice of designers who wish to add a touch of luxury to the catwalks.
For the forthcoming Autumn/Winter season fur comes in many forms including full fur coats, skirts, jumpers and accessories. Designers displaying their love of fur include Fendi, Dolce & Gabbana, Julien Macdonald, Jean Paul Gaultier, Sonia Rykiel, Lanvin, Peter Som, Oscar de la Renta, Paul Smith, Marni, Miuccia Prada, Etro and Giorgio Armani.
Designers showing at London did not disappoint - fur was very apparent with Julien Macdonald's full on furs sparkling with crystal and beads. Sophistication was evident with Jasper Conran's chic collection, which included short-sleeved dark brown mink coats. Exciting pieces at Gareth Pugh's show included a coat with dark mink sleeves and ruffled front and a long, hooded black cape with splashes of black mink fringing.
The finale of the fashion shows was held in Paris with an array of sumptuous furs. Marc Jacobs presented short, hip hugging skirts in fox and Jean Paul Gaultier used copious amounts of fox and mink to create an eye-catching collection.
British Fur Trade Association (BFTA) spokesperson, Andrea Martin said: "With more innovative and up and coming designers adding fur to their collections, fur is definitely the fabric of choice this season. In the UK sales of fur, fur trim and fur accessories have risen by nearly a third from last year showing that our love of fur is strong on and off the catwalks."
