(01/07/2005) BFTA announces results of Fur Design Competition 2005
The British Fur Trade Association (BFTA) is pleased to announce the winners of the BFTA Fur Design Competition 2005.
The results are as follows:
First Prize - Robert Hall, Ravensbourne College of Design & Communication
Second Prize - Lucy Norton, University College Northampton
Third Prize - Amanda Gush, University College Northampton
The winning design was a midnight blue weasel, puff sleeved jacket which will be put forward to the International Fur Trade Federation's design competition in 2006.
Entrants were required to design a collection of womenswear garments incorporating the use of fur. The purpose of the competition is to encourage students to appreciate the possibilities for using fur in fashion. Prizewinners were selected because of their ability to design fur garments that were innovative and wearable.
As part of the project a selection of finalists attended a one-day workshop where they learnt about fur and were introduced to the different techniques that are possible. A representative from Saga Furs showed many examples and explained how they could be achieved.
The ten finalists showed great enthusiasm and had really thought about their designs.
Following a week at Saga Furs in Denmark First Prizewinner, Robert Hall said: "Thanks to the BFTA competition I visited the farm which is owned by the Royal Veterinary College in Denmark and I felt that the quality of animal husbandry was really high. I've been to the Saga studios and fully researched their production and standards. I think fur is an amazing product to work with and I will definitely continue to use it in my future career."
British fashion designer Sid Bryan was among the final judging panel along with a representative from Saga Furs, a designer at Hockley and BFTA director, Frank Zilberkweit.
