(01/09/2002) “Growing fur sales spurred by worldwide advertising campaign”

Worldwide fur sales are expected to comfortably exceed $US10 billion this year, spurred on by a massive advertising campaign launched by the International Fur Trade Federation (IFTF).

The 12-page Fur Report utilises 10 international September editions of Vogue including the British edition, as well as the Chinese edition of Cosmopolitan. The campaign is expected to reach more than 34 million people. Featured are designs by Fendi, Jil Sander, Donna Karan, Michael Kors, Dolce & Gabbana, Jean Paul Gaultier, Sonia Rykiel, Prada, Givenchy, Louis Vuitton, Roberto Cavalli and Christian Dior.

Global fur retail sales increased by some 7% in 2001 to reach $US9.8 billion according to the latest survey by the IFTF.  And in the UK, sales are up by more than 30% report members of the British Fur Trade Association (BFTA).

"Having such a prestigious magazine as Vogue feature fur reflects the growing popularity of fur as a natural textile of choice for many British fashion consumers. We are pleased that Vogue has joined others in this international campaign," said the BFTA.
